Water Quality

Glen Summit Springs lies near the village of Glen Summit on the Nescopeck and Penobscot Mountains. This area is protected by 450 acres of conservation lands. The founder, J.E Patterson, was a successful businessman who purchased 500 acres of land to enjoy the mountain air and build his home. In 1882, after previous discussions, the Lehigh Valley railroad and Mr. Patterson built a grand hotel for travelers to have a place to rest and refresh. Patterson kept the 200 acres that contained the finest springs andbegan bottling water in 1884.
The village contained the hotel and several Vicorian cottages and this created the first market for Glen Summit Spring Water. In the 1880's R.H Cabell n London, England were their first distributor. By 1909 the company was so successful it justified the building of their bottling house which Glen Summit still uses today. The building included a shower for the employees since the sanitary conditons of the bottles were so important to the company, even before the government agencies required it.
In 1936 William Richard Quin purchased the controlling interests and under his direction distribution spread throughout the Susquehanna Valley and surrounding areas. Mr. Quin was also responsible for Glen Summit Beverage Company, using the pure spring water as the main ingredient in it's sodas. Glen Summit became a household name 55 years before bottled water became an industry of its own.
In 1972 the flooding of the Susquehanna River and death of Mr. Quinn eliminated the beverage business and Glen Summit focused it's attention on spring water. The company was passed to Quin's daughter has remained a family maintained business to this day.
